What is the HR 107 Cord Blood Education and Awareness Act of 2009?

This bill was introduced in the House by Jackie Speier requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) to develop a publication relating to umbilical cord blood that includes: (1) an explanation of the potential value and uses of umbilical cord blood; (2) the medical processes involved in the collection of cord blood; and (3) options for ownership and future use of donated umbilical cord blood. Directs the Secretary to develop a written patient informed consent document relating to cord blood disposition to be presented to and signed by the expectant woman not later than two weeks before her estimated delivery date.
